Be your own CARBON COP!
Help
heal the earth with our 5 R's : Re-use,
Reduce, Repair , Recycle & Re design
Three easy steps!
1. COUNT- Calculate
your impacts
Aim
for Zero impacts.
When you reduce
your energy costs, it shows that
you are using less energy and waste -. therefore causing less carbon
impact.
Learn
HERE How to Reduce your carbon Impact.
Reduce
at HOME. Reduce at WORK Reduce at PLAY.
Help
heal the Planet by reducing your Carbon Impact. You can go to
Live earth, Conservation International, The Australian institute,
Climate
friendly and other sites.
At Live earth you can complete your own
assessment see link below (as limited as that one is- we think this is
only scratching the surface)
Our Office manager's score was only 2.5 tons (1 person house and very carbon
aware) whereas the
national average for the US is 7.5 tons of carbon emissions per year. At safe climate the score was almost
the same. 2.477 (we've heard CARBON COP'S site
says the average Aussie household (a family) is 14 tons per
annum. BUT
At climate friendly the average citizen is calculated at 28 tons
per annum. Such disparity is hard to reconcile, so just stay with one
method.
Here we are only caluculating primary costs
there are also secondary costs (such as embodied energy) such as costs to society.
She put her state as CA -California because the climate
is similar to where she
lives. South of Sydney NSW Australia. On another
site she used their calculator and her score was 13.96 tons
with the
same data. So we've decided on the approach as below. It
doesn't really matter how you measure your impacts, as long as you get
a figure to use as a starting point , and reduce it from there.
You can get a free calculator from GHG (Green house gas Protocol)
below.
To count it SIMPLY:
Add up all your energy bills for the year.
Electricity, gas, water, heating, petrol,
oil, and other transport - train, bus, air fares.
(eg Our Office manager's total of accounts was only $2500.00)
Calculate Total as: each 1,000 thousand dollars as = 1 TON.
(This is our estimate
method only but it is a good guesstimate. It's comparative to live
earth and safe climate. Our answer was the same as the live earth
and safe climate calculation, whereas Carbon cops estimate
twice that and climate friendly doubled it again!)
Then deduct how you offset your
impact. (planting trees. each one = Half a ton.)
Trees take
in carbon and give off oxygen.
Our Office manager's example impact was 2.5 tons. She needed
to purchase or plant 5 trees. She's already done that.
To Achieve Zero impacts:
You
can reduce your imprint, you can live more sustainably, you can offset
your carbon impact by planting trees. (or paying us to plant
Biodiverse
native species trees for you.) You can Reduce,
Re-use,Re-cycle, PLUS
Re-design, Repair, Renovate, Re-train, Rehabilitate, Reflect, and
even REBEL against the waste generated in
our society. |
